Southern Maryland Receives More Than $500,000 in Maryland Heritage Grants 

Grants from the Maryland Heritage Areas Authority will support tourism, economic development, and educational opportunities in Southern Maryland.

 HUGHESVILLE, Md.— Gov. Wes Moore today announced eight grants totaling $548,000 for heritage tourism projects in the Southern Maryland National Heritage Area. Grant funds will support efforts to preserve, enhance, and share Southern Maryland’s unique cultural and natural resources, including its parks, museums, and historic places. 

Seven local organizations and jurisdictions received the grants through the Maryland Heritage Areas Authority. More than $5 million in grants were awarded statewide. 

“More than half a million dollars to Southern Maryland from this program is the largest amount received to date”, said Lucille Walker, executive director of the Southern Maryland National Heritage Area. “It shows the tremendous growth that we are experiencing as a region and as a national heritage area, and each of these grants will have a significant impact for Southern Maryland.”

Historic Sotterley, Inc. – $99,720 
Rehabilitation of Existing Structure into a Visitor Center 

Calvert Marine Museum Society, Inc. – $50,000 
The Patuxent: A Pictorial Encyclopedic History of Maryland’s Forgotten River 

The Official Piscataway Conoy Tribe of Maryland, Inc. – $50,000 
Piscataway Conoy Cultural Museum 

The Living Classrooms Foundation – $48, 950 
Southern Maryland Trail Stewards 

The Town of North Beach – $79, 500 
Connecting Natural Resources and Heritage Tourism 

Farm Heritage Conservancy – $95,000 
Southern Maryland Heritage Garden and Pavilion 

Tri-County Council for Southern Maryland – $100,000 
Southern Maryland National Heritage Area Management Grant 

Tri-County Council for Southern Maryland – $25,000 
Southern Maryland National Heritage Area Block Grant
