Rev. Dr. Pauli Murray was a civil rights activist, feminist, attorney, poet, author, and priest who authored the book “State’s Laws on Race and Color in 1951”, which Thurgood Marshall called “the bible for the civil rights movement”. Her writing was cited in the Supreme Court’s landmark 1954 Brown v. Board of Education case.
Southern Maryland National Heritage Area Executive Director Lucille Walker and Rosita Stevens-Hosley, Pauli’s niece, were recent guests on the Nation of Writers podcast hosted by the American Writers Museum to discuss Pauli’s feature in the museum’s special exhibit, American Prophets: Writers, Religion, and Culture.
