Help Preserve Southern Maryland Heritage
Help us give help when and where it’s needed. Whether it’s supporting local museums, supporting a one-room school house that’s about to fall down, preserving oral histories to tell a more complete story, maintaining trails, volunteering to lead tours, participating in music festivals, creating an Artscape for all to enjoy, there are so many ways to participate. As you enjoy this website, please look into our regional partners who could use your help and participation.
If you wish to donate to us directly, your generous funds would go to further our important mission of telling a complete story of the region, creating educational opportunities and comprehensive cultural and resource conservation. We partner with the Tri-County Council for Southern Maryland, and donations would be made that organization. Please note on your donation that it is for the Southern Maryland Heritage Area (Destination Southern Maryland). The Tri-County Council is a 501(c)3 and entitles the giver to all applicable tax benefits accorded by law.

Our Mission
Destination Southern Maryland is also the Southern Maryland Heritage Area Consortium (SMHAC). Our mission is to enhance Southern Maryland through innovative heritage tourism experiences, comprehensive cultural and natural resource conservation, and excellence in educational opportunities. We tell the story of what makes Southern Maryland unique!
SMHAC is also an economic engine, providing product development and increased economic activity throughout the region through grants, partnership building, and sustaining regional identity. As a non-profit organization, our efforts to preserve Southern Maryland Heritage are funded by grants and the support of other like-minded individuals.
